The Romans first discovered that the climate in this area was ideal for growing grapes. Later, during the Middle Ages, monasteries and priories played a key role in expanding the region's vineyards and selling its wines.

Ribeiro's highly valued wine, once considered one of the most expensive and sought-after, was transported through the region on the backs of mules and horses. From the main ports of Galicia, these wines were shipped to Brittany, Flanders, and England, where they were highly appreciated.

Walking through the Ribeiro region is a treat, with its unique landscape of terraces, slopes, and banks. Here, skilled artisans craft wines that honor the history, heritage, and roots that live on in every glass.

To keep the experience truly personal, each tour runs with a minimum of 6 and no more than 8 guests — so spots are always limited.

ITINERARY

  • We will pick you up from the Vigo, Santiago or Porto airport and head to lunch or dinner, depending on your arrival time. This first day will be dedicated to getting you settled into the boutique hotel and introducing you to our beautiful home.

    We'll be staying in Ourense, the city of Las Burgas, where we'll explore its narrow streets steeped in medieval and Renaissance history. We'll uncover its Roman past, marked by the wealth of the Miño River's gold and its famous thermal baths. After our walk, we'll dive into the city's exquisite food scene and enjoy tapas made with the region's best products.

  • After breakfast, we will visit our 1st winery.

    We'll head to Leiro, where we'll meet Xulia Bande, a passionate winemaker who is continuing a long family tradition. As the granddaughter of the last mule drivers of the Ribeiro region, Xulia works tirelessly to restore her family's vineyards and preserve the indigenous grape varieties that give her wines their unique character. After a pleasant walk through some of her vineyards, we'll cross the Avia River to reach her winery. There, we'll taste her wines paired with traditional local dishes.

    In the afternoon, we'll unwind with a well-deserved soak at the Prexigueiro Thermal Spa. You'll be able to enjoy the therapeutic waters in a beautiful, natural setting.

    In the evening, for those who want, we will take a stroll through the streets of Ourense to enjoy more tapas and wine with the locals.

  • After breakfast, we will visit our second winery.

    Here's the English translation:

    We will continue our journey to Ribadavia, the historic capital of the Ribeiro region, to meet Antonio Míguez Amil: historian, researcher, and winemaker. Antonio has dedicated 30 years to restoring family and historic vineyards, replanting the indigenous grape varieties of the area. During the visit, we will have the chance to see a stone wine press dating back to between the 6th and 12th centuries. At his winery, we will enjoy a wine tasting accompanied by the typical gastronomy of the region.

    After lunch, we will stroll through the charming streets of Ribadavia, steeped in history and surrounded by the majestic city walls.

    The evening is yours to explore the city.

  • After breakfast, we will visit the museum.

    We'll end our experience with a visit to the Museo do Viño Galego (Galician Wine Museum), located in an 18th-century priory—a true architectural gem. The museum's permanent exhibit is dedicated to the history of grape cultivation and wine production in Galicia, giving us a unique look into the region's winemaking traditions.

    The day will wrap up with a relaxing and satisfying lunch, the perfect way to reflect on our journey.

    For those not staying for the final night, we can drop you off in either Vigo, Orense or Porto. Please let us know your preferred drop-off location in advance so we can finalize arrangements.

    For those of you continuing with the tour, our last night will be spent in the charming city Vigo, Santiago, or Porto.

    After we check into our hotel, a local guide will take us on a one-hour walk through the city's historic center. Afterward, you'll have the chance to enjoy some of the region's exceptional food and wine with Ana.

  • After breakfast, we'll be saying our goodbyes.
